Silk was born in Fredericton (New Brunswick), Canada. Ilkay Silk is the child of Peter Silk, an academic as well as Anna Silk who is an actress, director, producer, playwright. Anna recounts some of the first moments in her existence when she would go to see her mother in play rehearsals. Silk appeared as a little girl in several commercials. She completed her studies at St. Thomas University with an Associate of Arts degree in 1997. Theatre St. Thomas was involved in at least two of the early stage productions that included Seven Menus (1997) and The Kitchen (1999). Silk started her career in acting when she moved to Toronto Canada in the month of November 1999. After that, she relocated to Los Angeles for the remainder of that decade. Seth Cooperman became her husband in 2007, after they met at an ActorsWorkshop held located in Los Angeles. They were engaged in 2009, then married in the civil ceremony on December of the same year. On April 10, 2011 they reaffirmed their vows at the context of a Jewish ceremony in Fredericton after she converted to Judaism.
